About us... Most people are interested in finding out about how 8 Beaks was started... Well, it was actually all by accident. I was one of the unfortunate people who worked for a company called Enron.. Yes, Enron! I lost my job in January 2002.. and decided to pursue a career as a chef, so I was planning on starting the French Culinary Institute in in New York City November that year. Having a few months off before I started school, I started making my 8 parrots (hense the name... 8 Beaks) toys that they would actually played with. I had parrots for 4 years, and was always frustrated with the toys on the market. My birds would play with one part on the toy, and the rest would sit there untouched.. not to mention I would always end up redesigning their toys because there seemed to always be something unsafe about it and the quality of the toy was unforgivable. ANYWAY, I started gathering up a supply of toyparts my birds actually enjoyed playing with... shared some of the designs with friends who had parrots, and decided to start a specialty bird toy business a few months later. I put the culinary institute on hold, and started 8 Beaks in November 2002... and here we are! It's funny how things turn out.. Losing my job with Enron was a blessing in disguise.. now I have the best job on earth! I must say, it's a lot of hard work knotting all these parts, and spending hours making these incredible designs... but at the end of a long day, when a customer writes and tells me how happy their bird is, or how they stopped plucking, or how impressed they are with the quality.. well it's all worth it! And in case you are wondering.. I do everything myself! I personally design all of the toys and run the entire business on my own. We just recently moved our home-based business to a store not to far from our home, which is proudly a NO-Birds and NO-Smoking zone! Thanks to everyone for all their support!
